Most of the time, I try to keep things simple out here. But a few weeks ago I ran into something that felt unnecessarily complicated: tracking our chickens.
Egg counts, chick care schedules, coop cleaning, feed costs all scribbled across too many notebooks and spreadsheets. It worked, but barely. So I decided to do something about it.
I built an app.
Introducing Cluckr
Cluckr is a lightweight Android app that helps you manage your flock. It tracks:
- Egg production
- Chick development with weekly guidance
- Coop maintenance reminders
- Your egg savings based on local prices
No internet required. No cloud syncing. It stores everything on your device. The goal was to make it helpful without overcomplicating anything.
Built With AI and Vibe Coding
I didn’t use a dev team. Just Replit, some AI assistance, and a lot of problem-solving.
Most of the app was “vibe coded” which is my way of saying I built it based on what felt right as I worked through it. I would ask a question, tweak some code, test it, break it, fix it, and repeat.
This was my first app, and I learned a lot in the process. I also confirmed something I’ve been thinking for a while: it’s now easier than ever to build simple, useful tools tailored to your exact needs. You don’t have to wait for someone else to make it.
Try It
If you’ve got chickens or know someone who does, Cluckr is free and now live on the Play Store.
It’s not fancy. It just works. And for me, that’s the best kind of tech.
